China blocks 'Egypt' searches on micro-blogging... →
zeitvox: newsflick: The continuing anti-government protests in Egypt appear to have sparked some nervousness in China.  The authorities have blocked searches for the Chinese word for Egypt on micro-blogging sites, similar to Twitter. At least one person speculates that China may be the “Next Egypt”

For all late-night internet lurkers →
thepolo: This is a program that ‘warmifies’ your computer screen after the sun goes down. Basically, it tracks the sun and if it’s out, your computer screen is normal, and when it goes down, it gradually gets warmer. I’m on my first night with this, but I have to say, the light is a lot less irritating. Also, it can be disabled whenever you want, should you need to do more serious, active work....

Revolution Porn →
spiegelman:   I get a sense that there’s a lot of rah-rah revolution going on by American observers of the Egyptian protests and the Tunisian overthrow, with a lot of knee-jerk criticism of the United States for supporting the “wrong” side in the conflict. It all seems very Tea Partyesque to me, salivating over the spectacle of radical change without any real thought whether the actual...

Anonymous asked: Hey, I'm just wondering if you're the person I drew for HP Gift Exchange on Elfster? If you are, I can't find your email address on the site and since the exchange is well over, I can't seem to send you anymore Q&A's. I got your message and I hope your gift is on its way! I sent it out the end of the week before last, so I guess two weeks ago? I haven't recieved...

evanfleischer: The U.S. has secretly been backing opposition figures for the past three years. 1,000 protesters have tried to storm the Interior Ministry. The Washington Post wants Mubarak to go. It seems the army is siding with the protesters. Here’s Ian Black on why what Mubarak did last night — firing his … cabinet? — was so insufficient: “Mubarak (…) failed to give any sign that he was...

“The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately...”
– Elizabeth Foley  I totally agree with this. There are some people that you connect with - no matter how much time has passed, conversation picks up without missing a beat. When you see someone again after a long time, and its kind of awkward? Well, the fact that you’re together says something...

Big cities are not always the biggest polluters →
For instance, the sprawling western U.S. city of Denver’s per capita emissions were nearly double those in New York City, home to 8 million inhabitants and a heavily used subway system. as a semi-frequent flyer to denver, i can safely say its also probably because everyone and their dog drives an SUV in denver.

azspot: Where’s the beef? Not at Taco Bell, apparently. A law firm is claiming that the fast food chain is using false advertising when it says its Mexican delicacies are filled with “ground beef” or “seasoned ground beef.” In fact, the lawsuit claims, the “taco meat filling” used by Taco Bell contains is only about 35% beef, with binders, extenders, preservatives, additives and other agents...

What's the Most Literate City in America? →
According to the annual study of America’s Most Literate Cities, Washington, D.C., has snatched the literacy crown away from perennial front runner, Seattle. Unfortunately, a closer look at the numbers reveals that nationally, key indicators of literacy are on the decline. The scores that earned D.C. the top spot in 2010 would, in 2004, only be enough to reach 7th place. i bolded the last...

Pizza / McPizza - McDonald’s has also attempted pizza at various times, with an apple-pie–like McPizza and more conventional McDonald’s Pizza. A line of personal-sized pizzas was first seen in the late 1970s in test-market stores near interstate highways around Milwaukee and Madison. In Canada (c. 1992-1997), the pizza originally began as a family-sized pizza that was brought out to...
